Meeting someone new can be exciting, but your safety should always come first. At Nexlit, we believe love grows through trust — and that begins with protecting your well-being. These safety tips apply both online and offline as you explore meaningful connections on our platform.
1) Online Safety
Never Send Money or Financial Info
Never send money to someone you haven't met in person — no matter the reason. Scammers often claim emergencies, military service, or travel problems to gain your trust. Treat all such requests as a red flag.

Protect Personal Information
Avoid sharing your full name, home address, social security number, workplace, daily routines, or your children’s information with anyone you've just met online. Privacy protects your peace.
Keep Conversations on Nexlit
Keep your early conversations on the Nexlit platform. This allows us to apply security measures that help detect scams and protect your messages. Users who try to move the conversation off-platform too quickly should be avoided.
Be Cautious of Long-Distance Requests
Be wary of users claiming to be from your area but stuck overseas or unwilling to meet or video chat. If someone avoids basic questions, pushes for a relationship too soon, or makes financial requests, report them.
Report Suspicious Behavior
Help us keep Nexlit safe by reporting:
- Requests for money or gifts
- Underage users
- Harassment, threats, or offensive messages
- Fake profiles or impersonation
- Spam or links to products/services
To report a user, go to their profile or chat window and click “Report.” For more details, see our Community Guidelines.
Secure Your Account
Use a strong password, avoid logging in on public computers, and never share your Nexlit credentials. We will never email you asking for your password. If you receive such a request, report it immediately.
2) Meeting in Person
Take Your Time
Build trust before meeting. Use video or phone calls as a first step. Don’t let anyone rush you into an in-person meeting before you’re ready.
Meet in Public
Always meet in public spaces for the first few dates. Avoid private locations like homes or hotel rooms. If your date insists on privacy too soon, walk away.
Share Your Plans
Tell a trusted friend or family member where you're going, who you're meeting, and when you expect to return. Keep your phone charged and on hand.
Stay in Control of Your Transportation
Use your own transportation to and from your date so you can leave when you want. If driving isn’t possible, arrange a ride-share or a friend to pick you up.
Know Your Limits
Drugs or alcohol can impair your judgment. Don’t feel pressured to drink or use substances you’re uncomfortable with. Stay aware, stay in control.
Watch Your Drink & Belongings
Only accept drinks directly from a bartender or server. Never leave your drink or personal belongings unattended — especially items with your ID, wallet, or phone.
Trust Your Gut
If something feels off — leave. You never owe anyone your time, attention, or explanation if you feel unsafe. Ask a server or staff member for help if needed.
3) Sexual Health & Consent
Protect Yourself
Condoms, when used consistently and correctly, help reduce the risk of STIs. Some STIs, such as HPV or herpes, may also be spread through skin contact. Vaccination and regular testing help reduce risk.
Know Your Status
Not all STIs show symptoms. Stay informed by getting tested regularly. Find a clinic near you via gettested.cdc.gov.
Talk About It
Before getting intimate, talk about sexual health, boundaries, and consent. Honesty helps build trust. In some places, knowingly transmitting an STI is a crime.
Understand Consent
Consent must be clear, mutual, and ongoing. It can be withdrawn at any time. Never proceed if someone seems unsure or is unable to give full consent due to alcohol or drugs. Learn more at RAINN: What Is Consent?
4) Resources & Support
No system is perfect. If something bad happens, remember — it's not your fault. Please report it to Nexlit and seek support.
